Biography

The chaotic journey of Necrotic Woods started in 2004, when Nachzehrer and Thorn decided to unite their affection for the dark, the cold and the suicidal in a black metal band. On an eerie and beer-fueled evening, the two founding members came up with the concept and fatefully engraved the name „Necrotic Woods“ on it. Yet, a singer and a guitarist don’t make a classic black metal band, so soon Trist (drums) and Brew (second guitar) joined the band. Now a fully working outfit, the four started working on material and composed their first songs. Various rather small underground shows followed.

After these first live experiences, time had come to take the next step – record a first demo album.

Entering a studio near their home town in early 2008, the band recorded a first sinister output: Exaltation Of Death. The album focuses on various topics from darkness over nature to suicide. The album was released by the band itself in 2008. With a running time of over 35 minutes, the album contained six songs:

  1. Under Pitch-Black Skies
  2. Exaltation Of Death
  3. Landscape Of Solitude
  4. Harbingers Of The Coldest Days
  5. Invocation
  6. Endless Autumn Is My Face.

Some of the classics can still be heard live at the band’s concerts.

In the following years, the band’s line-up changed. Original drummer Trist left the band for personal reasons, yet could luckily be replaced by Leech. The former drummer of Withering Eternity felt at home in the band from his very first encounters. In 2011, spitt joined the band as bass guitarist. This line-up has not changed since.

The band started working towards more live appearences. From 2011 on, many shows were played, for example in Cologne, Paderborn, Bielefeld, Würzburg and Tongeren (Belgium).

At the same time, songwriting for the successor to „Exaltation Of Death“ started.

Over several years, Thorn worked on the lyrics for what should become the band’s second output: The Nameless Dark. At the same time, the band intensified songwriting and rehearsing. After finishing, the band was ready to enter a studio again in 2014. This time, they chose the Burns Productions Tonstudio in Bad Pyrmont. What started as Black Metal back in 2004 has become a tempest which also carries death, thrash, doom and gloomy, perverted rock’n’roll in its breath. The album contains about 48 minutes of music divided into ten songs, while the playlist reads as follows:

  1. 1:17
  2. Life Is On The Wane
  3. Godless
  4. The Indifferent Sun
  5. A Hundred Ropes
  6. The Nameless Dark
  7. Oneiric
  8. Blood And Ashes
  9. Languor
  10. A Funeral Shroud Cast Upon The Late World.

In November 2014, a contract with the cologne-based label Bret Hard Records was signed and the new album, „The Nameless Dark“, has been let loose upon the world in March 2015. After the release, shows were played in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

After the release of „The Nameless Dark“ and a lot of shows in and around Germany, the band kept using their creative output and started writing songs for a new album. In 2017, a cover version of The Velvet Underground’s „Venus In Furs“ was recorded at Hellforge Studio and released with a music video shortly thereafter. Since July 2018, new songs have been recorded at the very same Hellforge Studio in Detmold. After Necrotic Woods parted with Bret Hard Records in 2018, a new label has to be found to release the successor to “The Nameless Dark” in 2019. Beware the things to come!
